Barrel #: 110
Now-a-days we are beginning to see Willett Family Estate own distilled and bottled 3 year rye. However, like many start up distilliers, Willett used sourced rye whiskey from Lawrenceburg, Indiana by Lawrenceburg Distillers Indiana, which is owned by the Seagram’s corporation. This is a 95% rye whiskey that has a green wax top. Willett discounted the wax top in the Spring of 2014 and this particular Willett Family Estate sourced rye is no longer on the market.
Nose: Big, bold rye and dill up front. Mint with some caramel. Green apple.
Palate: Again presented with that complex rye and dill as it hits the tongue. Little caramel and brown sugar. Great thick mouthfeel. No signs of oak.
Finish: Long. That rye slides down slightly hot, with a finish of mint and brown sugar. Finish sticks on the back of the tongue and throat for minutes after.
In your face rye flavors, and I dig it. The rich mouthfeel makes this extra enjoyable. Incredibly complex for just 4 years old.
